Just as Aussies have recovered from Dry July, abstaining from alcohol in the name of a good cause has sprung into spring, with community initiative Ocsober.

Brought to you by Life Education, a not-for-profit community organisation providing kids drug and health education, Ocsober challenges Aussies to commit to 31 days of saying ‘no’ to alcohol and raise funds to support and empower Australian children to make healthy and safe choices about alcohol and drug use.

In 2014, Life Education hope to raise over $1 million from Ocsober, which will go towards continuing, improving and expanding the delivery of vital health education programs in schools across Australia.

In addition to raising funds, Ocsober aims to raise awareness of the emerging culture of binge drinking and abuse of alcohol that is particularly problematic for young Australians.

According to the Australian Secondary Students Alcohol and Drug Survey, almost half of 16-17 year olds nationwide intend to get drunk when they drink alcohol and the Drug Info Clearing House reports that teenagers who begin drinking before age 15 are five times more likely to become dependent on alcohol than those who start drinking at 21.

Help change these alarming statistics by registering for Ocsober and find will power to stay sober.

Embody safety in numbers by signing up a power team or lead your workplace away from cocktails and into mocktails for Friday afternoon drinks for the month of October.
