There’s three more days of Anti Poverty Week, the awareness raising campaign which aims to reduce poverty and hardship through strengthening public understanding of these issues in Australia and around the world.

From 12-18 October 2014, activities have been taking place all over the nation, with Queensland hosting a number of activities across the state. Check out the Gold Coast City events and activities by clicking here

An anti poverty report was released this week by Australian Council of Social Services, showing an increase in poverty in Australia to 2.5 million people. Queensland ranks second highest, after Tasmania.

The Anti Poverty Week Facebook page puts the spotlight on hidden poverty, which is experienced by many who live in drought declared areas of Queensland, as well as family carers in Queensland, who struggle to pay for essentials and battle with rising costs such as record high rents and rising power bills.

Follow Anti Poverty Week on Facebook to learn more about what poverty and hardship look like in our community and how we can actively help to reduce these issues.

This week, it’s all about exploring the ways government, community and business can work together to create local solutions to help reduce poverty.
